We don't implement or distribute and disappear. We walk with communities.

CAST is a locally rooted organisation in Borno State, Northern Nigeria. We work alongside communities and local institutions to strengthen the systems that carry people through crisis — for good.

Support, Strengthen, Sustain

Relief saves lives. It does not, on its own, end structural poverty. Our work is built to stay long enough for change to hold.

Rooted where we work

For over a decade, Northern Nigeria — and Borno State in particular — has carried overlapping crises: armed conflict, severe displacement, economic collapse, climate shocks and broken basic services.

Repeated assist-and-exit cycles leave communities exposed to the very next shock. CAST exists to break that pattern.

Culturally grounded by design

As local actors, we work with traditional leadership, faith-based structures and local economic systems rather than around them. Solutions are designed in the language, rhythm and trust networks of the communities themselves.

That is what makes them sustainable — and what turns aid recipients into self-reliant economic and social actors.

Our Programs

Three connected programs, each built to strengthen local capability rather than replace it.

Why we rise up

CAST was formed by people from the communities it serves. We are headquartered in Borno State, and our teams live in the places they work — which means we see the same crises our neighbours see, every day.

Humanitarian relief delivers critical, life-saving aid, and it must continue. But short-term project interventions alone cannot solve structural poverty. When a project ends and the team leaves, the underlying systems are often exactly as they were.

So we work differently. Long-term capability transfer, institutional building and deep community ownership are the point of every program we run — not a side effect of it. We measure success by what remains when we are no longer there.

Voices From the Communities

What changes when support stays long enough to become capability.

They did not come with bags and leave. They sat with our savings group for two years until we could run the books ourselves. Today our women lend and repay without anyone from outside.

CAST worked through our ward structures and respected the way we make decisions here. That is why the emergency plan they helped us build is still standing and still used.

As a partner, what stands out is their discipline about exit. They plan for handover from the first meeting, and they document it. That is rare, and it is what makes the work last.
